Autor vychází ze svých zkušeností se stacionární formou dialektické behaviorální terapie v léčbě hraniční poruchy osobnosti, které získal na Hans-Prinzhorn-Klinik v Hemeru (Německo). Ve srovnání s vyspělými zeměmi je hraniční porucha osobnosti v našich psychiatrických zařízeních diagnostikována vzácněji. Lze však očekávat její narůstající incidenci, a to nejen díky větší pozornosti, která je jí věnována, ale i díky jejímu častějšímu výskytu jako takovému.
