Předložená práce přispívá k diskusi o typologii osobnosti drogově závislého jedince. České písemnictví se touto otázkou zabývá jen sporadicky a v zahraničních pracích není na problematiku jednotný názor. Autoři chápou záležitost různě, v intencích svých teoretických východisek.

Autor této práce psychodiagnosticky vyšetřil během 2 let soubor 90 drogově závislých, hospitalizovaných v Psychiatrické léčebně Bílá Voda, baterií projektivních testů, z nichž nejpřínosnější se ukázal test Rorschachův. Nálezy svědčily pro obecně závažnější osobnostní patologii toxikomanů a při použití novějších vyhodnocovacích škál prokázal autor, že nejméně 50 % protokolů respondentů vykazuje spektrum patologických osobnostních obran a dalších fenoménů tradičně přičítaných kontinuu hraničních a narcistických osobnostních poruch. Autor konstatuje, že tyto nálezy odpovídají závěrům psychodynamicky orientovaných autorů a jsou rovněž ve shodě s každodenní klinickou psychoterapeutickou praxí.
