Depresivní syndrom u seniorů, významný a dosud nedoceněný problém

Deprese je závažným onemocněním nejen z pohledu zhoršení kvality života a zdravotního stavu individua, ale také z pohledu veřejného zdravotnictví, a to zejména v kontextu stárnutí populace. Nejčastěji se vyskytuje u seniorů v institucích. Tomu odpovídají i výsledky našeho šetření u 122 seniorů žijících v domovech důchodců pomocí 15 položkové škály deprese dle Yesavage (GDS), které potvrzují, že těžkou depresí (GDS 10/15 a více) trpí 15 % seniorů a mírnou depresí (GDS – 5–9/15) je postiženo 40 % seniorů, dalších 11 % je léčeno antidepresivy. Výskyt deprese koreluje s horším funkčním stavem a kvalitou života obyvatelů domova důchodců.
