Antidepressants in the treatment of bipolar depression

The use of antidepressants in the treatment of bipolar disorder remains controversial. Despite the frequent use in clinical practice, the

fundamental questions regarding the efficacy and safety of antidepressants in both acute and long-term treatment of bipolar disorder

have not yet been satisfactorily answered. The article offers a current view of the place of antidepressants in the treatment of bipolar

depression, including general recommendations for clinical practice.
