Metabolic syndrome in bipolar disorder

Bipolar affective disorder is a chronic disease connected with a high occurence of cardiovascular and metabolic morbidity and mortality

as well. Despite these findings, bipolar patients are not obtaining equal standard of medical care for their somatic diseases as general

population. Monitoring of physical health by psychiatrists is therefore necessary.
