Tianeptin abuse

MUDr.Martin Hýža, MUDr.Martina Čechová
Oddělení psychiatrické, Fakultní nemocnice Ostrava

Antidepressants are generally thought to be non-adictive agents. However, there are exceptions in the group of older dopaminergic

drugs like tranylcypromine and amineptine. Since 90s, there are some information in the literature regarding the tianeptine abuse, also

in very high dosages. A stimulating effect is supposed. These findings are in opposition to the former recommendations for the clinical

use of tianeptine in the patients with addiction and concurrent depressive or anxious symptoms.

The literature review is followed by our own case report.
