Alzheimer’s disease, appeal to public health

Alzheimer´s disease (AD) is very important appeal to public health now. It is very serious disease, prevalence will be increased with population ageing. There are many risk factors, which increase possibility of AD. Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, Faculty of Medicine University of Ostrava and Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science, Masaryk university collaborate on the case control study which identifies the most significant risk factors of AD. In a pilot study significant difference in gender, education, occupation and ischemic heart disease were found. In smoking and drinking inverse association was observed. Knowledge of the risk factors for AD allows early prevention and effective therapy of this serious disease.
