Sleep disorders in affective disorders

doc. MUDr. Dana Končelíková, Ph.D.
Klinika psychiatrie FN Olomouc

Sleep disorders as a symptom can accompany a variety of conditions, whether mental or physical. They do not always mean illness and at a certain stage of life almost every person has struggled with it. Sleep disturbances, both in terms of shortening, prolonging or changing quality, are a common symptom of mood disorders. The fact that chronobiological treatment leads to mood swings also adds to the interrelationship. Insomnia is also considered a significant risk factor for the development or recurrence of depression, as well as being examined as a predictor of response to treatment. The following article provides a brief overview of the issue of sleep disorders in selected affective disorders.

Keywords: affective disorders, insomnia, hypersomnia, therapy, risk factor, relapse.
