Case report: Involuntary addiction treatment in prison

The case study describes a case of involuntary treatment for an unmotivated 37-year-old patient with a diagnosis of alcohol dependence, who was ordered by the court to undergo institutional protective anti-alcohol treatment, which was supposed to take place while serving a prison sentence. The patient began inpatient protective treatment in a specialized section of the prison. Despite all the efforts of the multidisciplinary team, the patient did not complete the treatment. After many months, the court canceled the protective treatment due to its ineffectiveness. The patient did not want to work on himself, completely denied his diagnosed alcohol addiction, refused to participate in a therapeutic program, boycotted treatment and committed violence and pressure on fellow patients. The goal of the case study is to reflect on the importance, course and possibilities of ordered protective treatment in the conditions of serving a sentence for unmotivated patients.
