Background: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is one of the most prevalent anxiety disorders, significantly affecting patients' quality of life. However, access to traditional psychotherapy is often hindered by stigma and geographical or financial barriers. Internet-based therapeutic programs, such as Mindwell, offer an accessible alternative based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and adherence of the internet-based psychoeducational program Mindwell in individuals with mild to moderate symptoms of GAD.
Method: A total of 209 patients were enrolled in the program based on recommendations from health insurance providers between January 1 and May 30, 2024. Participants assessed their symptoms using the GAD-7 and PHQ-9 scales before starting therapy, during the therapy and at the end of the therapy.
Results: Data analysis from 118 participants who completed at least six modules showed a significant anxiety reduction (GAD-7, t = 9.470; p < 0.001) and depressive symptoms (PHQ-9, t = 9.671; p < 0.001). The effect size (Cohen's d = 0.89) confirms a strong intervention impact.
Conclusion: The results confirm the high effectiveness of the Mindwell program for GAD patients. Internet-based CBT therapy proves to be an effective and accessible alternative to traditional psychotherapy and may play a key role in expanding access to anxiety disorder treatment.
