in diabetes mellitus type 1 and 2. A retrospective study
Some mental disorders, especially depression, are more prevalent in patients with diabetes mellitus. Comorbid mental disorders deteriorate
prognosis of diabetes mellitus and alternatively, diabetes mellitus deteriorates the course of mental diseases. Results of existing
research suggest that diabetic patients need a psychiatric intervention in addition to a standard care, nonetheless, the study results are
unequivocal regarding effectiveness of the intervention in glycemic control improvement. The retrospective observation in the presented
study concerns 72 diabetic patients, who were treated by one psychiatrist over the past few years. A comparison of psychiatric
intervation modalities (psychotherapy, psychoactive drug treatmentor a combination of both) in type 1 and type 2 diabetic patients is
presented. No association of mental state improvement and glycemic control improvement was found.
