Pharmacogenetic testing in hospitalized psychiatric patients: benefits and interpretation importance

Our article aims to introduce the reader to pharmacogenetic (PGx) testing in psychiatry, where it currently represents an available and significant tool in personalized medicine. PGx testing enables the adjustment of pharmacotherapy based on patients' genetic predispositions. In psychiatry, PGx testing focuses on polymorphisms in genes responsible for drug metabolism, primarily cytochrome P450 enzymes such as CYP2C19 and CYP2D6. Anxiety disorders are currently the most common group of mental disorders, affecting more than 300 million people worldwide. Budgets for the treatment and prevention of these disorders are very limited. The article focuses on self-compassion, which is an available approach to reducing anxiety symptoms as well as potentially treating anxiety disorders. Objective: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a six-week therapeutic program combining elements of schema therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD). Case study of a patient with Wernicke's encephalopathy caused by excessive diet

The patient was admitted to the Department of Psychiatry of Masaryk University and University Hospital Brno with a diagnosis of a delirious state not superimposed on dementia. Based on a more detailed medical history and another assessment, the cause of this state and of the duration of some symptoms was determined as Wernicke's encephalopathy. Treatment was adjusted accordingly using thiamine, which led to further improvement of the patient's condition. Due to persistent ataxia, the patient was subsequently transferred to the neurology rehabilitation department.

Loss of voice as a rare side effect of long-term lithium treatment: A case study of a 32-year-old patient with bipolar affective disorder

This case study describes a 32-year-old woman suffering from bipolar affective disorder who was hospitalized in the psychiatric department of CNS Center Třinec due to a voice loss lasting 10 months. The patient had been under psychiatric care since 2013, when she was admitted to the unit shortly after the birth of her daughter, presenting with psychotic symptoms.
