Workaholism involves extreme time spent working, preoccupation with work to the elimination of other life areas, loss of control
over the limits of one’s work and disenchantment with work, and negative emotional, social, and health consequences. The etiology
of workaholism is not clear but may relate to persons with several characteristic, like compulsive, narcissistic or dependent traits, which
are driven to work harder than that required from work contexts, and who have learned to place work as a main means of satisfaction
compared to other lifestyle options. Treatment implications are discussed.
